Safety First, Always
Rigorous testing. Transparent ingredients. Peace of mind for every parent.
When it comes to your child's skin, we don't cut corners. Every Hopsy product is developed with pediatrician guidance, tested by dermatologists, and formulated to be as gentle as a parent's touch.
Our Safety Standards
Dermatologist-Tested
What it means: A board-certified dermatologist reviews our formulas and oversees testing to ensure they're safe and gentle for delicate skin.
Why it matters: Kids' skin is thinner and more sensitive than adult skin. Dermatologist oversight means our products are evaluated by experts who understand how young skin works.
Our commitment: Every Hopsy product is tested under dermatological supervision before it reaches your bathroom shelf.
Hypoallergenic & Patch-Tested
What it means: Our products undergo a Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT)—the gold standard for checking if a formula might cause allergic reactions or irritation.
How it works: Small amounts of the product are applied to volunteers' skin repeatedly over several weeks. Trained scientists monitor for any signs of sensitivity.
Why it matters: This rigorous testing helps us confidently say our products are hypoallergenic (formulated to minimize allergy risk).
Note: While we test extensively, individual sensitivities vary. We always recommend a 24-hour patch test before first use.
Pediatrician-Advised
What it means: We work with pediatricians during product development to ensure our formulas are appropriate for growing skin.
Why it matters: Pediatricians understand the unique needs of babies, toddlers, and kids at different developmental stages. Their guidance helps us choose safe ingredients and appropriate age recommendations.
Our process: From concept to final formula, pediatric advisors review ingredient selection, concentration levels, and product claims.
Ophthalmologist-Tested (Tear-Free)
What it means: Our cleansers labeled "tear-free" are tested by eye doctors to ensure they're gentle if they accidentally get in little eyes.
How it works: The formula is evaluated using standardized tests that measure eye irritation potential. Only products that pass can be called tear-free.
Why it matters: Bath time should be fun, not frightening. Tear-free formulas mean fewer tears and happier kids.
Cruelty-Free & Vegan
What it means:
- Cruelty-Free: We never test on animals. We're Leaping Bunny certified, the gold standard for cruelty-free cosmetics.
- Vegan: Our products contain no animal-derived ingredients—no beeswax, lanolin, or carmine.
Why it matters: Compassion for all beings is part of who we are. You can feel good knowing no animals were harmed in making Hopsy products.
What's NOT in Hopsy Products
We're as proud of what we leave out as what we put in. Every Hopsy product is free from:
Our standard: If science shows a concern—even a potential one—we find a gentler alternative.
Allergen Awareness & Transparency
Even the gentlest, most natural ingredients can cause reactions in some individuals. Here's how we help you make informed choices:
Common Allergens in Skincare
While our products are hypoallergenic (formulated to minimize risk), some ingredients may still cause sensitivity in certain individuals:
- Nut-derived ingredients: Coconut oil, almond oil, shea butter
- Botanical extracts: Chamomile, calendula, lavender
- Essential oils: Even natural scents can trigger reactions
- Oat: Generally soothing, but oat allergies exist
- Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Often derived from soy or wheat
How to Identify Allergens
- Check the full ingredient list: Available on product packaging and individual product pages
- Look for INCI names: These are the scientific names (e.g., Avena sativa for oat)
- Filter by allergen-free: Use our product filters to exclude common allergens
- Contact us: Unsure about an ingredient? Reach out—we're happy to clarify
Our Commitment
- Full ingredient transparency (INCI + plain language)
- Clear allergen callouts on product pages
- Dedicated customer support for ingredient questions
Patch Testing: Your First Line of Defense
Even with rigorous testing, every child's skin is unique. We recommend a simple patch test before using any new product.
What is a Patch Test?
A patch test checks if your child's skin reacts to a product before you use it all over.
How to Do a Patch Test
- 1
Choose a small area
Behind the ear or inner forearm (skin is sensitive here, so it's a good indicator)
- 2
Apply a small amount
About the size of a pencil eraser
- 3
Cover loosely
Use a small bandage if needed (optional)
- 4
Wait 24 hours
Don't wash the area during this time
- 5
Check for reactions
Redness, itching, bumps, or irritation
⚠️ If there's a reaction:
Don't use the product. Wash the area gently and discontinue use.
✓ If all is well:
Proceed with normal use!
Keep it on your fridge as a reminder to patch test new products
Age Recommendations: Why They Matter
Not all skincare is one-size-fits-all. Our age labels help you choose products matched to your child's developmental stage.
How We Determine Age Suitability
Professional process: Pediatric dermatology consultation + clinical safety data
Factors we consider:
- Skin barrier development: Newborn skin is more permeable than older kids' skin
- Ingredient concentration: Gentler strengths for younger ages
- Product purpose: Some actives (like SPF) are safe only after 6 months
- Usage patterns: Toddlers might ingest products; we avoid certain ingredients
Our Age Categories
0+ (Newborn/Baby)
Ultra-gentle, fragrance-free, minimal ingredients
3+ (Toddler)
Tear-free options, fun textures, still very mild
6+ (Kids)
Broader ingredient palette, longer-lasting formulas
Always check the label: If unsure, start with the gentlest option or consult your pediatrician.
