Our Story

It started with a simple search—and ended with a promise to do better.

The Beginning

It was bath time on a Tuesday evening. My three-year-old daughter, Emma, had just finished painting herself head-to-toe in sidewalk chalk and mud—as toddlers do. As I reached for the children's body wash we'd been using, I paused to read the label.

"Sodium laureth sulfate... phenoxyethanol... parfum..."

I didn't recognize half the ingredients. And Emma's skin—her beautiful, delicate, eczema-prone skin—was reacting. Small patches of redness appeared after every bath. The pediatrician said to try "fragrance-free" or "hypoallergenic" products. So I did.

I tried everything. I spent hours in store aisles, squinting at tiny labels under fluorescent lights. I ordered products online with promises of "gentle," "natural," and "pediatrician-approved." Some helped a little. Most didn't. And the ones that claimed to be "natural" still had ingredient lists longer than my grocery receipt—with names I couldn't pronounce, let alone understand.

The Question That Changed Everything

"Why is it so hard to find skincare that's truly safe, truly gentle, and actually tells me what I'm putting on my child's skin?"

I'm not a chemist. I'm not a dermatologist. I'm just a parent who wanted to care for my child without needing a medical degree to decode ingredient lists.

I talked to other parents at the playground, at preschool drop-off, at the pediatrician's office. The same frustrations echoed everywhere:

  • "I don't know what half these ingredients are."
  • "Products marketed for kids still irritate my baby's skin."
  • "I wish someone would just explain things in plain language."
  • "Why do I have to choose between 'natural' and 'actually works'?"

That's when I realized: if I couldn't find what I was looking for, maybe I needed to create it.

Building Hopsy

I spent the next year learning everything I could. I talked to pediatric dermatologists, cosmetic chemists, and toxicologists. I read research papers at midnight after Emma went to sleep. I learned about INCI names, HRIPT testing, and pH balance. I discovered that "fragrance-free" doesn't always mean gentle, and "natural" doesn't always mean safe.

Most importantly, I learned what should go into children's skincare:

Plant-Powered Ingredients

Gentle botanicals like oat, aloe, and chamomile—ingredients that have soothed skin for generations, now backed by modern science.

Rigorous Testing

Dermatologist-tested, pediatrician-advised, and hypoallergenic. No shortcuts, no compromises.

Radical Transparency

Every ingredient explained in plain language. No hiding behind scientific jargon or vague claims.

Compassion

Cruelty-free, vegan, and thoughtfully formulated. Care that's kind to kids, animals, and the planet.

I partnered with formulators who shared my vision. We tested, retested, and refined. We threw out batches that didn't meet our standards—even when it meant starting over. We designed labels that tell the truth, not just what sounds good.

And finally, after countless late nights, failed formulas, and moments of doubt, we had something I was proud to use on Emma's skin.

We had Hopsy.
