Product & Safety

Questions about product safety, testing, and suitability for your child

Yes! Products labeled 0+ are specifically formulated for newborns and babies. They're fragrance-free, ultra-gentle, and use minimal ingredient lists. Always patch test first and consult your pediatrician if your baby has eczema or other skin conditions.
Many of our products are eczema-friendly, but we recommend consulting your dermatologist or pediatrician first. Look for products labeled "barrier-friendly" or "eczema-prone skin." Avoid fragrances and always patch test before full use.
Some products contain coconut-derived ingredients. While coconut is botanically a fruit (not a tree nut), individuals with severe allergies should consult their allergist. Shea butter comes from shea tree nuts—check with your allergist if concerned. We're transparent about all ingredients—check the full INCI list on each product page.
  1. Stop using the product immediately
  2. Rinse the area with cool water
  3. Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer if needed
  4. Contact your pediatrician if the reaction is severe or doesn't improve
  5. Let us know: Contact our customer care team so we can investigate and help
  1. Choose a small, sensitive area (behind the ear or inner forearm)
  2. Apply a small amount (about the size of a pencil eraser)
  3. Cover loosely with a bandage if needed (optional)
  4. Wait 24 hours without washing the area
  5. Check for any redness, itching, bumps, or irritation

If no reaction occurs, the product should be safe for regular use. If you notice any irritation, discontinue use.

Yes! All Hopsy products are dermatologist-tested and formulated to minimize allergic reactions. "Hypoallergenic" means we exclude common irritants and allergens whenever possible. However, no product can be 100% allergen-free for everyone, so we always recommend patch testing, especially for sensitive skin or known allergies.
Our products are designed for children and are generally gentle enough for adults too. However, if you're pregnant or nursing and want to use them yourself, consult your healthcare provider—especially with products containing essential oils or active ingredients.
Check the PAO (Period After Opening) symbol on the packaging—it looks like an open jar with a number (e.g., 12M = use within 12 months of opening). We also print batch codes for traceability. Store products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maximize shelf life.

Ingredients

Understanding what goes into our products and why it matters

Plant-based means our active and key ingredients come from botanical sources—like oats, aloe, coconut, and chamomile—rather than synthetic or petroleum-derived alternatives. We prioritize gentle, nature-derived ingredients while ensuring safety and efficacy through science-backed formulation.
Yes, but only gentle, proven-safe ones. Preservatives prevent bacterial and mold growth, which is essential for product safety. We avoid controversial preservatives like parabens and formaldehyde-releasers, opting for alternatives like potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate.

We exclude ingredients that parents commonly want to avoid:

  • Parabens
  • Sulfates (SLS/SLES)
  • Phenoxyethanol
  • Synthetic fragrances (unless naturally derived and disclosed)
  • Phthalates
  • Formaldehyde-releasers
  • Mineral oil & petrolatum

For a complete "No List," visit our Safety & Standards page.

We offer both fragrance-free and naturally scented options. When we do include fragrance, it comes from natural sources like lavender or chamomile essential oils—and we always disclose it clearly. Natural fragrances can still cause sensitivity in some children, so we recommend fragrance-free products for babies and sensitive skin.
INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. It's the standardized naming system for ingredients worldwide. We list both INCI names (like Avena sativa) and plain-language names (like Oat Kernel Extract) so you can understand exactly what's in each product. Explore our Ingredients Glossary for detailed explanations.
Many of our botanical ingredients are organically sourced, including aloe, chamomile, calendula, and oats. While not every ingredient is certified organic, we prioritize high-quality, sustainably sourced, non-GMO ingredients whenever possible. Specific sourcing details are available on individual product pages.
Yes, selectively. Some synthetic ingredients—like gentle preservatives and stabilizers—are necessary for safety and product stability. We choose only those with strong safety profiles that are widely accepted in pediatric skincare. Our philosophy: natural where it matters, synthetic when it's safer.

Usage & Age Suitability

How to use our products and choose the right ones for your child's age

Look for the age indicator on each product:

  • 0+ (Newborn/Baby): Ultra-gentle, fragrance-free, minimal ingredients
  • 3+ (Toddler): Tear-free options, fun textures, still very mild
  • 6+ (Kids): Broader ingredient palette, longer-lasting formulas

These are guidelines based on typical skin development. Always consult your pediatrician for children with specific skin concerns.

We don't recommend it. Children's skin is thinner, more permeable, and more sensitive than adult skin. Adult products often contain active ingredients (like retinol, acids, or strong fragrances) that can irritate or overwhelm young skin. Hopsy products are specifically formulated for pediatric skin needs.

Less is more with kids! Here are general guidelines:

  • Cleanser: Pea-sized amount
  • Lotion/Moisturizer: Nickel to quarter-sized amount per body area
  • Sunscreen: About 1 ounce (a shot glass) for full body coverage; reapply every 2 hours

Specific usage instructions are on each product page and packaging.

Yes! Our products are gentle enough for daily use. For cleansers, once or twice a day is typical. For moisturizers, apply as needed—after bathing and throughout the day for dry skin. Sunscreen should be applied daily and reapplied every 2 hours when outdoors.
In many cases, yes! Products labeled 0+ are safe for all ages, making them great for families with multiple kids. Products labeled 3+ or 6+ can be used by older children and adults. However, avoid sharing products if one child has a skin condition or active infection.
Tear-free formulas are specifically designed not to sting or irritate eyes, making bath time more comfortable for young children. They use gentler surfactants (cleansers) and avoid ingredients that cause eye irritation. Regular formulas may be more thorough cleansers but can cause discomfort if they get in the eyes.
Store products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing in hot, humid bathrooms if possible, as heat and moisture can degrade ingredients. Keep lids tightly closed. Check the PAO (Period After Opening) symbol for how long products remain fresh after opening.

Certifications & Standards

Our commitment to quality, ethics, and transparency

Yes! All Hopsy products are 100% vegan. We never use animal-derived ingredients like beeswax, lanolin, or milk proteins. Our formulas are plant-based and cruelty-free.
Never. We're Leaping Bunny certified, meaning no animal testing at any stage of development—by us or our suppliers. We use alternative testing methods like in-vitro tests and human volunteer studies (with adults and age-appropriate pediatric testing when necessary).
It means our products have undergone testing by board-certified dermatologists to evaluate safety and skin compatibility. Tests include clinical trials with human volunteers (including children, with parental consent) to assess for irritation, sensitivity, and overall skin health. This certification ensures products are suitable for sensitive and delicate skin.
We collaborate with board-certified pediatricians throughout product development to ensure formulas meet the unique needs of children's skin. Pediatricians review ingredient selections, age recommendations, and safety protocols. This input helps us create products parents can trust.
Yes! Our sunscreen products use non-nano zinc oxide, a mineral-based ingredient that's safe for coral reefs and marine ecosystems. We avoid chemical sunscreen filters like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been shown to harm coral reefs.
Yes. We comply with regulations in the US (FDA), EU (Cosmetics Regulation), UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Our products meet or exceed safety standards in each region, including banned and restricted substance lists. We also follow ISO 22716 Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
We're committed to sustainability. Our packaging uses post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials wherever possible, and components are designed to be recyclable. We partner with suppliers who share our environmental values and are continuously working to reduce our carbon footprint. Learn more on our Our Story page.
